Welcome to the memorial page for

Betty Jane (Heisey) Goodling

February 27, 1934 ~ February 12, 2017 (age 82) 82 Years Old

Betty J. Goodling

Betty J. Goodling, 82, passed away unexpectedly from a brain hemorrhage on Sunday, February 12, 2017 at Hershey Medical Center with her family by her side.  Born in Maytown on February 27, 1934, she was the daughter of the late Samuel J. & Elizabeth N. Heisey.

She is survived by her husband, Albert O. Goodling; a son Randy; daughters, Diane and Karen (Dave) Good,  and grandchildren, Amanda, Andrew and Alexander Good, all of Elizabethtown; Granddaughter, Katrina (Matt) Knowles and three great grandsons reside in Gloucester, United Kingdom.

Betty was a devoted, loyal, and loving wife, mother and friend.  She and Bert celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on June 17, 2016.  A 1951 graduate of Elizabethtown High School, she was an employee of Carpenter Insurance before becoming a stay-at-home mom.  From 1989-2014, she was a self-employed income tax preparer. She was a member of the Elizabethtown Church of the Brethren where she was in charge of the comfort knotting program for many years. Health challenges in recent years were fought through with grace, determination and dignity.  She liked reading, crossword puzzles, shopping, getting her hair done and breakfast mornings with class members or family.  Playing pinochle on Saturday nights with family and friends was a time of laughter and fun.   Getaways at Baker’s Dozen Hunting Camp in Potter County were spent with family, watching the grandchildren, riding four wheeler and relaxing.   She will be missed by her cats who knew she was an easy touch for a snack or treat.

Betty’s celebration of life service will be held Thursday, February 16, 2017 at 11 AM at Elizabethtown Church of the Brethren, 777 S. Mount Joy St., Elizabethtown 17022 with Pastor Pam Reist officiating.  Family and friends are invited for viewing on Wednesday, February 15th from 5:30-7:30 PM at Miller-Finkenbinder Funeral Home & Crematory, 130 N. Market St., Elizabethtown and on Thursday, February 16th from 10 AM until time of the service at the church.  Burial will be at the convenience of the family in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her honor to Water Street Rescue Mission, 210 S Prince St, Lancaster PA 17603, Bethesda Mission, PO Box 3041, Harrisburg PA 17105, or Elizabethtown Church of the Brethren.
