Eva Mae Melhorn Brubaker

Eva Mae Melhorn Brubaker went to her eternal home on March 13, 2017 at the age of 97.  She was born in York Co. on May 23, 1919 to William Curtis and Noami (Schock) Melhorn. 

At a young age Eva Mae felt called to be a missionary, so after working numerous jobs, at the age of 23 she went to Beulah College in Upland, CA to get her High School education. Later she received her Bachelor of Religious Education from Messiah College and a BA for teaching from Elizabethtown College.

Eva Mae worked with God’s Love Mission in Detroit, MI after finishing school.  In 1954 she was called to serve with Brethren in Christ World Missions in Rhodesia (Zimbabwe), Africa as a teacher.  She taught at the Matopo Secondary School and later at Ekuphileni Bible Institute.  After returning from Zimbabwe in 1976 she taught at the Shalom Christian Academy near Chambersburg, PA.

She married the Rev. Arthur Brubaker in 1979 and moved to the Mt Joy area.  She has spent her last 22 years at Messiah Lifeways, Mechanicsburg and until recent years volunteered in various capacities.  She was also an active member of the West Shore Brethren in Christ Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 15 years, Rev. Arthur Brubaker and brothers Roy, Lloyd Sr., Charles, George, Clair and Cletus Melhorn.

She is survived by a sister, Ruth Christener of Dover, Ohio, a brother Rev. Kenneth (Bertha) Melhorn of Middleburg, PA and many nieces and nephews.

She is also survived by a loving and supportive step family, Rev. John Arthur, Mary Sides, Rev. Levi, H. Kenneth, Ruth Hollander, Joyce Heisey, James, E. Robert Brubaker and many grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, March 23, 2017 at 11 AM at Messiah Village Lifeways Chapel, 100 Mount Allen Drive, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055 with Pastor Debby Bentch, Rev. Dr. Robert Verno, and Rev. John Arthur Brubaker officiating. Family and friends are invited for viewing from 10 AM until time of the service. Burial will held in the Mastersonville Brethren in Christ Cemetery, Manheim at 3:30 PM.  Arrangements have been entrusted to Miller-Finkenbinder Funeral Home & Crematory, 130 N. Market St., Elizabethtown 17022. 

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in her honor to Brethren in Christ World Missions, 431 Grantham Rd., Mechanicsburg 17055.
