Gordon R. Wolfe, Sr.
Gordon R. Wolfe, Sr., 82, of Elizabethtown, passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 12, 2015 at Lancaster General Hospital. He was born Sunday, October 22, 1933 in Fredericksburg, PA to the late Ernest and Florence (Boltz) Wolfe. He was married to Janet E. (Sweigart) Wolfe on October 25, 1952.
A Veteran of the Korean Conflict, Gordon proudly served with the US Army. He retired from the M.S. Hershey Medical Center where he was in charge of grounds keeping, retiring in 1995. Prior to that, he worked at Frey & Son Architectural Millwork, Lancaster. His interests included woodworking, antique cars, spending time with his family and he took great pride in his backyard fishpond. Above all, Gordon will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother and friend.
Gordon was a member of the National AACA and also Hershey Region AACA as well as the Elizabethtown VFW Post #5667 and the Elizabethtown American Legion Post #329.
In addition to his wife of over 63 years, he will be lovingly missed by three children: Gordon R. “Gordie” Wolfe, Jr. and wife Verna, of Mount Joy; Wendy S. Merkey and husband Harold, of Manheim; Sandy J. Christian and husband, Dave, of Mount Joy; five grandchildren; two great grandchildren; a sister, Ruth Bailor, of Myerstown as well as his extended family and caring friends. He was predeceased by a brother, Verling Wolfe and a sister, Jean Heister.
A Funeral Service will be held at 11 AM on Wednesday, November 18, 2015 at the Miller-Finkenbinder Funeral Home & Crematory, 130 North Market Street, Elizabethtown, PA 17022 with the Reverend D.J. Paglia officiating. Burial will follow in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville with Full Military Honors. Relatives and Friends are respectfully invited to view at the funeral home on Wednesday from 10 AM until the time of the service.
