Jay Ronald Newcomer, 85, passed away on Monday, April 24, 2017 in DeBary, Florida. He was born February 16, 1932 to Amos K. and Ethel R. Newcomer in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. On November 26, 1961 he married Genevieve Dawn Reisinger at Christ Lutheran Church, Elizabethtown, Pennsylvania.

Survivors include his companion of 15 years, Patricia Clouser of DeBary, Florida; son, Joseph John Newcomer (Diane) of Leesburg, Virginia; 3 daughters, Susan Marie Horton (Gary) of Meadowview, Virginia, Brenda Louise Dailey (Geoff) of Leesburg, Virginia and Tracey Diane Shepherd (Chris) of Durham, North Carolina; 7 grandchildren Joshua, Genevieve, Laura, Matthew, Audra, William and Dylan; sister Audra Moyer of Mt. Laurel, New Jersey; as well as 3 nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; and 1 grandson, Darren Thomas Horton.

Jay joined the Army directly out of high school serving in the Korean War and in Berlin, Germany attaining the rank of Sergeant.  He received the Korean Service medal with six bronze stars, the UN Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal along with several others.  He held several different jobs after the Army including milk man and mail carrier.  He finally joined the Department of Defense working in computer programming and operations in several different positions until retirement. Jay also worked for H&R block preparing taxes for over 30 years.  He continued tax preparation after retirement for friends and family.  He and his wife were avid Pinochle players and he loved to play board, card and dice games of all kinds.  Jay enjoyed travelling and visited many parts of the world. 

Viewing will be on Tuesday, May 2 from 10:00-11:00 am with service immediately following at Miller-Finkenbinder Funeral Home, 130 North Market Street, Elizabethtown, Pennsylvania. Interment in Mount Tunnel Cemetery will take place immediately following the service.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Jay’s memory to VFW, Post 5667, 126 Maytown Road, Elizabethtown, PA 17022.
