Jean E. (Martin) Stephens

 

 

Jean Evelyn (Martin) Stephens, 91, formerly of Elizabethtown, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 2, 2015 at Country Meadows of Bethlehem.  She was born Friday, December 7, 1923 in Greenville, Ohio to the late Charles and Louise (Katzenberger) Martin.  She was married to Gerald L. Stephens for over 32 years.  Gerald died in 1980.

 

Jean retired from New Cumberland Army Depot, where she had performed clerical work for many years. Previously she worked as a secretary for the Corps of Army Engineers in Nashville, TN and in Human Resources at Wright Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, OH during World War II.

 

She will be lovingly missed by three children: Leah J. Stephens of Royersford, Chuck K. Stephens and his wife April of Red Lion, Mary C. DeHaven and husband Kelly of Wind Gap; seven grandchildren; four great granddaughters; a daughter-in-law, Mary E. Stephens, of Elizabethtown, many loving extended family members and friends. She was predeceased by a son, Michael L. Stephens.

 

Jean loved spending time with her family. She particularly enjoyed the baby and childhood years of her children, whose ages ranged 12 years, and grandchildren, whose ages span 26 years. Born and raised on a farm in western Ohio, she liked working in her yard. She was an excellent cook and was particularly fond of baking. She also liked doing word search puzzles.

 

A Funeral Service will be held at 12 Noon on Tuesday, October 6, 2015 at the Miller-Finkenbinder Funeral Home & Crematory, 130 North Market Street, Elizabethtown, PA  17022 with the Reverend C. Frank Terhune officiating.  Burial will follow in Mount Tunnel Cemetery, Elizabethtown.  Relatives and Friends are respectfully invited to view at the funeral home from 11 AM until the time of the service on Tuesday.

 

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Jean’s Memory to St. Luke’s Hospice, 1510 Valley Center Parkway, Suite 200, Bethlehem, PA  18017.  Condolences and memories may be shared at www.millerfuneralhome.com.
