John H. Hoffman, Jr.,

John H. Hoffman, Jr., 94, passed away on Saturday, February 11, of natural causes. Born May 18, 1922 in Maytown, he was the son of the late John H. Hoffman and Ruth (Hess) Hoffman. His wife of 65 years, Betty (Collins) Hoffman, preceded him in death in 2010.

John was graduated from East Donegal High School in 1940. He was graduated  from Messiah Junior College (Grantham, Pa.) in 1942. He worked for the Pennsylvania Railroad until he was drafted into Civilian Public Service to serve in Shenandoah National Forest and the Rhode Island State Hospital.

John began work with the Maytown National Bank in 1948. Following merger, John continued with the Union National Bank of Mount Joy. In 1962 he was named Cashier and in 1974, President of the bank. After retirement in 1984, he served as a bank director until 1992 to conclude a banking career that spanned 44 years.

John was active in the Pennsylvania Bankers Association and the Lancaster Chapter of the American Institute of Banking. He was an agent for Old Guard Insurance Company. He served on the East Donegal Sewer Authority and the East Donegal Cemetary Association.

John accepted Christ at age 10. In his life and work he lived out his faith (Micah 6:8). He was an active member of the Elizabethtown Brethren in Christ Church.

John is survived by a son, Warren Hoffman and wife, Connie, of Elizabethtown, and three daughters, Karen Boyer and husband, Donnie, of Elizabethtown, Nancy Johnson and husband, Robert, of Naples (Tex.), and Linda Jones and husband, Carl, of Brownstown. Also surviving are 12 grandchildren and 29 great grandchildren. He was predeceased by two brothers, Clair and Glenn, and two sisters, Velma and Gladys.

The funeral service will be at 3 pm on Sunday, February 19, at Elizabethtown BIC Church, 996 East High Street, Elizabethtown, PA. Viewings will be held at the church from 6-8 pm on Saturday, February 18, and again from 2-3 pm the day of the service. Interment will be at East Donegal Cemetery at the convenience of the family. Arrangements have been entrusted to Miller-Finkenbinder Funeral Home & Crematory.  Memorial contributions may be made to the East Donegal Cemetery Association, c/o Steve Houck, 128 Rutherford Drive, Bainbridge, PA 17502.
