John E. Martin, Sr.

John E. Martin, Sr., 86, of Elizabethtown, died on Sunday, February 4, 2018 at Lancaster General Hospital. Born in Elizabethtown, he was the son of the late Ralph and Ada (Earhart) Martin. He will be lovingly missed by his wife of 60 years, Vera (Calhoun) Martin.

John was a proud Navy veteran, serving during the Korean Conflict. He went on to spend the next 60 years owning and operating his own business as a general contractor. He was a past president (1990) and a current member of the Rotary Club of Elizabethtown since 1974 and a Mason. Previously he was a member of the Mount Joy Township Sewer Authority and was on the building committee at the Elizabethtown Church of the Brethren. John loved to travel the world with his wife. John enjoyed fishing and crabbing in Maryland, and spending almost every weekend at their beach home in Delaware. Above all, John loved his family, especially his grandchildren.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two children: John E. Martin, II (wife, Suzi) of Elizabethtown, and Kathy M. Bewley (husband, Bradson) of Akron; son-in-law Brian N. Bartch; five grandchildren: Justin and Melissa Martin, Jeshurun, Judah, and Micah Bartch; and sister Joan Harman (husband, David III) of New Cumberland. He was preceded in death by his daughter Heidi J. Bartch, and sisters Joyce Arndt and Jesse Malmborg.

A Funeral Service will be held at 2PM on Friday, February 9, 2018 at Miller-Finkenbinder Funeral Home, 130 N. Market St., Elizabethtown, PA 17022 with Reverend Al Frank officiating. Closed casket visitation will be held from 1-2 prior to the service. Interment will follow at Grand View Memorial Park in Annville.
