Kenneth E. Brandt, 77, husband of Jean M. Brandt, of Elizabethtown, entered into eternal rest on October 20, 2016 at Masonic Village, Elizabethtown, Pennsylvania.

 

Born November 17, 1938, in Elizabethtown, Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late Amos F., and Anna M. Ebersole Brandt.  He was preceded in death by his brothers James F. and Robert E. Brandt.

 

A 1956 Graduate of Elizabethtown Area High School, Ken owned and operated A.F. Brandt & Sons Rendering, engaged in several self-employed business ventures, served on the Elizabethtown Area School Board, served in the Elizabethtown Jaycees as President and National Director which led to him running for State Representative for the 98th Legislative District serving in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives 1972-1990 rising to the position of Majority Policy Chairman.  Following service in the House he founded Hunters Sharing the Harvest in 1991, and then worked for John Milliron & Associates, a Harrisburg Lobbying Firm.  He was a member of the Elizabethtown Rotary and Rota-Cycle, F & AM Lodge 286 Columbia, where he was Past Worshipful Master, an active member of the Harrisburg Shrine and Motorcycle Unit, Corinthian Royal Arch Chapter 224, Columbia, and a proud founder and participant in the World Famous Falmouth Goat Races. Ken and Jean were avid Harley Riders and travelled through Europe, Australia and all but two states in the lower 48. 

 

He was an active member of the First Church of God, Elizabethtown where he served on Administrative Council and the Pastoral Search Committee, a Sunday School Teacher, as well as a delegate to East Pennsylvania Conference, Churches of God.  He volunteered at the Masonic Village, delivered meals on wheels and was a volunteer at the Bainbridge Elementary School.

 

As a lifelong resident of Lancaster County he was committed to a quality of community life and encouraged individuals to do pursue their dreams and enjoy every day of their lives.

 

Ken was a people person who went out of his way to meet new people and remain connected through so many walkways of life.  The world is a better place because of his life.

 

He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years Jean M. Brandt, Elizabethtown; Five Children, K. Edward and his wife Jane of Wilmington, Delaware; Kirby E. and his partner Kathy of Elizabethtown; Kelly Givens and her husband Rick of Elizabethtown; Karen and her husband Bradley Newcomer of Bethany Beach, Delaware; Kevin E. of Denver, PA; 10 Grandchildren, Jennifer Brandt Schwartz, Indianapolis, Indiana;, Kristopher Brandt of McKenzie, Oregon; Z. Elwood Brandt of Lititz; Ricky Givens of Elizabethtown; Nico Givens of Columbia, Maryland; Megan Newcomer Breslin, Baltimore, Maryland, Mallory Newcomer, Annapolis, Maryland, Luke Newcomer of St. Augustine, Florida; Sydney Brandt, Millersville;  and Rachel Brandt, St. Augustine, Florida; and five great-grandchildren, Rylee, McKenzie and Paityn Givens and Bailey and Ellie Schwartz.

 

The family will receive friends on Sunday, October 23, 2016 from 5:00 – 8:00 pm at the Elizabethtown First Church of God, 144 S. Market St., Elizabethtown, PA  17022.  A Masonic Service will be held on Monday, October 24, 2016 in Sell Chapel at Masonic Village, One Masonic Drive, Elizabethtown, PA  17022 at 10:30 am with a Memorial Service following at 10:45am.  Interment will be private.  Arrangements have been entrusted with the Miller-Finkenbinder Funeral Home & Crematory, 130 North Market Street, Elizabethtown, PA  17022, 717-367-1543.

 

We wish to thank the caregivers and medical staff at Hershey Medical Center, Masonic Village and Hospice for the wonderful care provided to this dear patriarch of our family.
