Laura Ann Horst, 40, of Marietta, passed away on Wednesday, May 29, 2019 at Hospice and Community Care, Mount Joy, following a long battle with cancer. Born Monday, February 5, 1979 in Lancaster, she was the daughter of James R. and Dorothy A. (Derr) Horst of Elizabethtown.
Laura was a loving and devoted mother and is survived by her son Peyton Brown. She lived for cheering him on at his football and baseball games. During the spring and summer when there were no games, the two of them would enjoy fishing at their favorite spot, the Elizabethtown College Lake. Throughout her life, she loved country music. In her younger years, she would travel to fairs, concerts and even Nashville to enjoy her favorite bands. Her devotion to music was proven by the binder of autographed photos of country singers she collected as a teen and young adult. Another love of Laura’s was Hockey. As a young adult she went to numerous Hershey Bears games and accumulated a diverse collection of hockey memorabilia.
Laura’s sassy personality and strong will to be independent will be missed by all. She was a fighter with a tenacious will to live and do what was right. She was employed by K and C Communications in Harrisburg for 15 years.
In addition to her parents and son, Laura is survived by two brothers: Ronald E. Horst and wife Jennifer C. of Maytown, and Kevin L. Horst and wife Melissa N. of Elizabethtown; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, June 5, 2019 at Miller-Finkenbinder Funeral Home, 130 North Market Street, Elizabethtown, PA 17022 at 6:00 PM. There will be no viewing. Visitation will be from 5:00 PM until the time of service. Interment will take place at the convenience of the family.
