Lester M. Hawthorne

Lester Musser Hawthorne, 87, of Elizabethtown passed away peacefully with family by his side on Wednesday, May 24, 2017 at the Masonic Village, Elizabethtown.  He was born Sunday, January 12, 1930 in Maytown to the late Victor Fisher and Elizabeth (Musser) Hawthorne.   He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Hazel Mae (Miller) Hawthorne.      

Lester spent his days working hard as a farmer.  He was athletic, enjoying golf and baseball and played softball in to his 70’s.  Lester was very active in Mt. Calvary Church, serving on their Board of Deacons and numerous other boards and committees both at the church as well as Mt. Calvary Christian School, where he was instrumental in the formation of the Christian School.  He had a servant’s heart, spending time visiting shut-ins.  Most importantly he was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother. 

He is survived by 4 children, Bonnie Bair and husband Denny, Douglas Hawthorne and wife Beth Sigmund, Diane Price and husband Keenan, and Philip Hawthorne; 12 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandsons; and 3 siblings, Vernon Hawthorne, Orpha Kreider, and Joyce Denlinger.  He was predeceased by 4 siblings, LeRoy Hawthorne, Florence Hershey, Anna Mary Hess, and Betty Hostetter.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, May 30, 2017 at 5 PM at Mt. Calvary Church, 625 Holly St., Elizabethtown 17022 with Pastor Richard Vaughn officiating.  Family and friends are invited for viewing from 3:30 PM until time of the service.  Burial will be private at the convenience of the family in West Green Tree Cemetery.  Arrangements have been entrusted to Miller-Finkenbinder Funeral Home & Crematory, 130 N. Market St., Elizabethtown 17022. 

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in his honor to Mt. Calvary Church or Mt. Calvary Christian School, 625 Holly St., Elizabethtown 17022.
