Olivia (Mercado) Herr
Olivia (Mercado) Herr, 92, of Elizabethtown, passed away peacefully with family by her side on Monday, June 20, 2016 at Masonic Village, Elizabethtown. She was born Friday, July 6, 1923 in Kalopa, Hawaii to the late Jesus and Maria (Salcedo) Mercado. She was predeceased by her loving husband Earl J. Herr in 2000.
Olivia was a survivor of Pearl Harbor. She grew up in Hawaii and worked on her father’s plantation farming sugar cane and coffee beans. She was faithful member St. Peter Catholic Church. Olivia enjoyed playing bingo, rooting for the Cowboys, and listening to Elvis, she also loved to sing. Her pecan pie, chocolate chip cookies, and raisin cookies were favorites of her children and their friends. Most importantly Olivia was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and sister.
She is survived by 3 children, Bernice Bowersox and husband Ronald, John Herr and wife Joanna, and Cathy Allen; 7 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and 6 great-great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a son Roy Allen Herr; a grandson, Eugene Markel, Jr.; and 7 siblings.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, June 23rd at 11 AM at St. Peter Catholic Church, 904 Mill Rd., Elizabethtown 17022 with Rev. Steven W. Fauser as celebrant. Family and friends are invited for viewing from 10 AM until time of the service. Burial will follow mass in Chiques Hill Cemetery, Manheim. Arrangements have been entrusted to Miller-Finkenbinder Funeral Home & Crematory, 130 N. Market St., Elizabethtown 17022.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her honor to St. Peter Catholic Church.
