R. Dale Long

R. Dale Long, 81, of Elizabethtown, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 11, 2016 at Lancaster General Hospital surrounded by his loving family.  He was born on Wednesday, July 18, 1934 in Manheim, to the late Raymond and Alverta (Walborn) Long.  He was married to Thelma G. (Lancaster) Long for over 60 years until her passing on January 21, 2015.

A Veteran of the Korean Conflict, Dale proudly served his country with the U.S. Navy.  He was employed by Leo Kob, Inc., Elizabethtown for many years and went on to retire from HVAC in Mount Joy.  He enjoyed woodworking, duck carving, rose gardening, hunting, fishing and traveling, especially to Myrtle Beach, SC.  He was also a longtime member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in Elizabethtown and the Abraham C. Treichler Lodge #682, F&AM., Elizabethtown.

He is survived by two daughters; Gail Y. Gardner and husband, Rick, of Lancaster and Robin A. Hoffman and husband, David, of York; 8 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren as well as his extended family and caring friends.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11 AM on Monday, May 23, 2016 at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, 398 North Locust Street, Elizabethtown, PA  17022 with Pastor Skip Davis officiating.  There will be a time of visitation at the church from 10 AM until the time of the service on Monday.  Private burial will be at the convenience of the family.  Arrangements have been entrusted with the Miller-Finkenbinder Funeral Home & Crematory, 130 N. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Dale’s honor to the church at the address listed above.
