Robert L. “Bob” Hassinger, 88, of Elizabethtown, passed away peacefully at Masonic Village on Monday, February 8, 2016. He was born Monday, July 4, 1927 in Elizabethtown to the late Lee L. and Charlotte Becker Hassinger. He was married to Virginia Feroe Eckert-Hassinger on March 4, 2012.
A Veteran of WWII, Bob proudly served with the U.S. Navy as a “Seabee”. He enjoyed wood working and was always interested in working with his model railroad displays. After owning a Taxi service and a Restaurant in Elizabethtown, he served as a custodian for the Elizabethtown Church of God for many years. He also liked helping at the Elizabethtown Library and was an enthusiastic Boy Scout leader. Besides serving on the Mount Tunnel Cemetery Board, he held memberships in the American Legion and the Masons.
In addition to his loving wife, Virginia, of Elizabethtown he is survived by two sons, Jeffrey I. Hassinger and wife Cindy, of York, Robert A. “Tony” Hassinger and wife Sharon, of Palmyra; 5 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. He was predeceased by a son, Barry Hassinger.
Funeral Services will be held at 11 AM on Thursday, February 18, 2016 in the Sell Chapel at Masonic Village, One Masonic Drive, Elizabethtown, PA 17022 with the Reverend A. Preston Van Deursen officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Tunnel Cemetery, Elizabethtown with military honors. There will be a viewing held in Sell Chapel on Thursday from 10 AM until the time of the service.
