WILLIAM M. DUNKELBERGER
William McClellan Dunkelberger, 89, of Elizabethtown, PA, passed away on Sunday June 7, 2009, at Masonic Village Healthcare Center, Elizabethtown. He recently celebrated 63 years of marriage with his wife, Laura Margaret (Wentzler) Dunkelberger. He was born in Camden, NJ, son of Maude and Lester Dunkelberger of Perry County, PA. He graduated from Elizabethtown High School and Thaddeus Stevens Trade School. He was a retired building contractor who built many homes in the Elizabethtown area. Community structures include the Emmanuel Baptist Church on East High Street and the Christ Lutheran Church A-frame. He was a member of Christ Lutheran Church, Elizabethtown, Abram C. Treichler Masonic Lodge #682, F&AM, the American Legion, the Elizabethtown Historical Society and a founding member of the Willowood Swim Club. He served on the Elizabethtown Borough planning board. He attended Millersville State College until he enlisted in the Army Air Corp, served as a Tech Sergeant and radio operator in the India/Burma theater of World War II. Surviving in addition to his wife, are children Jane E. Long of Lewisberry, PA, Norma L. Dunkelberger of New York City, Doris E. Dunkelberger of Roebling, NJ, Joyce A. Dunkelberger, Long Beach Island, NJ, and son-in-law Jesse M. Long, Lewisberry. Grandchildren Kristen Long, Harrisburg, PA, Angela (Long) McKinney and husband Jason McKinney, Dover, PA. Great grandchildren Miren, Kira, and Liam McKinney of Lewisberry, PA. He was preceded in death by his brothers Dr. L. Roy Dunkelberger, and Neil E. Dunkelberger. Bill always had a good joke to tell. He enjoyed a smart game of pinochle, singing around the piano, treating for ice cream and trips to the shore with family. He and his family also worked on numerous construction projects together. Like his father, he loved vegetable gardening, especially corn and tomatoes. He was loved and appreciated for his honesty, generosity, and humility. Friends and family may pay their respects at a memorial service Saturday, June 13th at 11:00 am at Christ Lutheran Church, 125 East High Street, Elizabethtown, PA. The family thanks you for your prayers and condolences.
