Memorial Service: Saturday, July 25, 2009 at 11:00 AM


JEAN W. LEICHT
Jean Wolgemuth Leicht, born June 30, 1921 died on Tuesday, July 7, 2009 at home. Born in Elizabethtown, she was the daughter of John Wolgemuth and Mary Hershey Wolgemuth. Jean earned her Bachelor of Science degree in merchandising from Drexel University in Philadelphia, graduating in 1944, and continued her studies in accounting at night at Franklin and Marshall College in the 1960’s at a time when day classes were not open to women. She enjoyed a twenty-plus year career as an accountant in Lancaster. She contributed her accounting skills to numerous charitable organizations in the Elizabethtown community including serving as treasurer for the United Churches of Elizabethtown where she was actively involved in the establishment of the Elizabethtown Community Child Care Center, at the time, a controversial undertaking in the community. She co-founded in 1988 and served as treasurer for many years for the Elizabethtown Preservation Associates, Inc., an organization which saved several of Elizabethtown’s oldest buildings that are now the home of the Winters Heritage House Museum. She was honored by the Business and Professional Women’s Club of Elizabethtown in 1991 as Woman of the Year in recognition of her dedicated service to the above mentioned organizations and to the Business and Professional Women’s Club of Elizabethtown, the Elizabethtown Hughes Society, the Elizabethtown Hospital Auxiliary and the Elizabethtown Fair. She gave the full measure of her talents in service to her community and to her family. Her life will continue to be an inspiration to all whose lives she touched. Her hobbies including the knitting of exquisite sweaters, embroidery, rug braiding, playing bridge and world travel. She was a member of the Donegal Presbyterian Church, Mount Joy, PA. She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul F. Leicht, M.D. and son John P. Leicht, M.D. Surviving are two daughters, Paula, widow of Dennis Tang, Elizabethtown and Susan, wife of Christian Long, Lancaster, daughter-in-law Nancy Leicht of Hermitage, PA and six grandchildren: Amy, Paul, John and Laura Leicht of Hermitage and Christine and Sarah Long of Lancaster. Her Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, July 25 at 11:00 a.m. at the Donegal Presbyterian Church, 1891 Donegal Springs Road, Mount Joy, PA 17552 with Pastor Thomas J. McKinnon, Jr., officiating. There will be no viewing. The family will receive friends on Saturday at the church from 10:00 until the time of service. Please omit flowers. Memorial contributions may be made to her church, the Donegal Presbyterian Church or to Elizabethtown Preservation Associates, Inc., 43-47 E. High St., Elizabethtown, PA 17022.
