PHILLIP J. LONGENECKER

Phillip J. Longenecker, 41, of Elizabethtown, passed away from injuries sustained in an automobile accident on Sunday, July 19, 2009. Born in Lancaster, he was the son of James A. and Gloria (Gish) Longenecker of Elizabethtown. He was the husband of Carol Donahue Longenecker of Elizabethtown.
As a young and spirited entrepreneur, Phil launched Elizabethtown-based Cutting Edge Media in 1991 out of a bedroom in his parents’ farmhouse. He started with a magazine about home-based business opportunities, Cutting Edge Opportunities, and his innovative ideas pioneered the way for his one –person magazine publishing business to grow into a multi-million dollar company that is widely recognized as a leader in the home business industry.
A gifted businessman, Phil led with a passion for business and an incredible zest for life. He inspired countless individuals with his talents and generous spirit and had an especially profound effect on his employees whom he considered his personal friends.
Phil was a kindhearted philanthropist committed to enriching and bettering the lives of others. He regularly reached out through local organizations with the purpose of making a difference in the lives of less fortunate families and children.
Phil also enjoyed traveling and self-development, and most of all he treasured spending time with friends and family, especially his beloved daughter, Polina.
In addition to his wife and parents, Phil is survived by four sisters: Pamela, wife of Jay Eshleman and their children: Jeffrey, Briana, Caitlyn and Zachary; Carol, wife of Mark Weaver and their children: Brent (deceased), Joseph and Jason; Dawn, wife of Stuart Brown and their children: Michael, Nicholas and Jonathan: and Kimberly Longenecker.
A Celebration of Phillip’s Life will be held on Sunday, July 26, 2009 at the Leffler Chapel at Elizabethtown College in Elizabethtown at 2:00 PM. There will be no viewing. The family will receive friends immediately following the service. Interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Phil’s honor to Brittany’s Hope Foundation (www.brittanyshope.org), a non-profit organization that helps aid and facilitate adoptions of special needs children from around the world.
