Private Services

ELEANOR M. SOUDER: Eleanor M. Souder, 88, passed away on August 7, 2009 at Fairmount Homes, Ephrata. Formerly of Elizabethtown and Newark, DE, Ellie resided with her daughter in Elizabethtown until two years ago. Born January 31, 1921 in Narberth, PA, she was the daughter of the late C. Orville and Elsie Williams Moore. She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Charles L. Souder and three sisters: Dorothy Fenstermacher, Mildred Irons and Ethel Kaufman. Ellie worked as a secretary for the former State Hospital for Crippled Children in Elizabethtown and also as comptroller at the former Olmsted Air Force Base in Middletown and the Bainbridge Naval Training Center in Maryland before retiring. She was an avid knitter, loved crossword puzzles and keeping up with current events. She is survived by her daughter, Janice M. Rote, Elizabethtown; two granddaughters: Sherry L., wife of Brian Drager, Elizabethtown and Susan M., wife of Winfield Thome, Moyock, NC; five great grandchildren: Taylor Thome, Amanda Drager, Emma Thome, Cole Drager and Elizabeth Thome along with nieces and nephews. The family wishes to thank the staff of Fairmount Homes in the Heartwood Wing for their kind and compassionate care. Services will be private and held at the convenience of the family. Contributions in Eleanor's memory can be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
