JACQUELINE D. HOLLINGER
Jacqueline D. Hollinger, 88, formerly of 30 Foreman Road, and more recently of Masonic Village, Elizabethtown, died of natural causes on Thursday at Magnolias, an assisted living community in Chambersburg, PA. Born Jaqueline Nancy Diffenderfer on October 25, 1921, in Harrisburg, she was the daughter of the late Clarence Walter and Adeline (Glatfelter) Diffenderfer, who owned and operated Diff's Place on Route 230 between Middletown and Elizabethtown. She graduated from Elizabethtown High School and attended Elizabethtown College for two years in order to serve as a laboratory technician. Jackie - or "Jake", as she was often called - was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Elizabethtown for nearly 75 years. She sang in the choir and participated in numerous United Methodist Women activities, particularly the prayer chain and funeral luncheon functions. Jackie never sought personal recognition but cheerfully and unselfishly gave of her time and considerable talents in a variety of other endeavors. Following her mother's lead, she was active in Eastern Star, serving as Worthy Matron in the Middletown Chapter in the late fifties. She was involved in Elizabethtown's Winters Heritage House Museum from its inception, volunteering in various capacities for more than a decade. She assisted in numerous activities at Masonic Village for over 20 years; and she was active in the Elizabeth Hughes Society where she participated in the American Cancer Society's Daffodil Days. She was skilled at knitting, crocheting, and sewing - much to the joy of her children and grandchildren. She was also an avid card player, for many years active in both bridge and pinochle clubs. She enjoyed modeling for Peck's Dress Shop, Oberlin, especially during Sunday Brunches at the Hotel Hershey. Jackie loved theater, music, singing and dancing. She played the piano and had a great affinity for jazz and the classics. For all, she was energetic, joyous and outgoing, and her winning, natural smile will be missed by those who knew her. She was preceded in death by Emory E. Stouffer, her first husband, in 1967, and by her second husband, C. Arthur S. (Cash) Hollinger, in 2007. She is survived by a brother, Walt R Diffenderfer, husband of Carol (Norton), New Cumberland. Also surviving are three sons, Colonel Thomas D. Stouffer, USMC (Ret.) husband of Deanna (Walker), Shippensburg; Larry A. Stouffer, husband of Vicki (Watson), Dahlonega, GA; and Dr. Philip C. Stouffer, husband of Dr. Kellen Gilbert, Baton Rouge, LA; seven grandchildren; six great grandchildren; and two stepdaughters, Patricia J. Longenecker, Elizabethtown, and Margaret A. Arris, Middletown. The funeral Service will be held on Friday, January 15, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Paul's United Methodist Church, 398 North Locust Street, Elizabethtown. The family will receive friends at the church from 10:00 until the time of service. A luncheon in the church will follow the service. Interment will occur separately at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens (formerly part of the farm of the parents of Emory Stouffer.) In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to: Home Nursing Agency Hospice, 761 5th Avenue, Suite A2A, Chambersburg, PA 17201; or to St. Paul's UMC, Elizabethtown 17022.
