Araella Bornmann Obituary

Araella Renee Bornmann, 20, left to live in Heaven with her friend Jesus on April 15, 2018.  She is lovingly put to rest by her mother, Joelle Renee Swift; her father, Corey Bornmann; her sister, Greta Bornmann; her stepmother, Carrie Bornmann; and her grandparents, Bob and Sandy Swift, Carl Bornmann, and Carol Miller (1942-2000). Araella is also cherished by her uncles, aunts and cousins.

Araella was born on December 20, 1997 in Scottsdale, Arizona and was pulled westward throughout her life by the sunshine, adventure and friendships there.

Rae grew up in the compassionate community of Elizabethtown, Pennsylvania where she was part of the swim team before switching to girl’s lacrosse in junior high.  She was a founding member of the first women’s lacrosse team at Elizabethtown Area High School, remembered by her character on and off the field. Araella also spread her light through playing in the orchestra, pit, and band. Her violin, Charming, enjoyed the competition of other instruments that Araella touched. Her love for music and song was an overflowing expression of her heart.

Rae loved the wonder of nature and enjoyed hammocking, hiking, boating, camping and going to the shore. Her paintings, doodles, and encouraging notes will be missed as well as her place at the game table.  She enjoyed fellowshipping with family, friends, the youth at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church and the young adults at The Worship Center, Living Room. Araella found purpose in praying for others and found pleasure in the love of her puppy, Sukee.

As a student at Waynesburg University, Araella studied nursing and the Bible.  She served at Life Point Church and communed with believers in several Bible studies. Araella was a part of the Admissions Team and the Upper Room Worship Team. She made it her mission to make everyone feel included. Her friends testify that Araella was able to find joy amidst the storm and she was able to teach others to do the same.

Wherever Araella was and whatever Araella was doing she was known for listening closely to people and for supporting and encouraging them with her words - seeming wise beyond her years.  Araella was also known for her smile and laughter. She truly was a “Rae of Light.”

Her life since diagnosis became a testament to living in the Spirit and so it cannot be said that she was defeated.  Araella LIVED and LOVED wholly - leaving this world full of peace while sharing glimpses of hope and heaven.
