Cynthia Louise Hain, Esq.

December 5, 1953 ~ April 28, 2017 (age 63) 63 Years Old

Cynthia Louise Hain, 63, of Tallahassee, Florida, passed away on April 28, 2017, after a brave fight against pancreatic cancer. Her West Highland Terrier, Harper, was by her side throughout the illness and at the time of her death.

Cynthia was born on December 5, 1953, in Lancaster, PA. She grew up in Bethlehem, PA, and graduated from Liberty High School in 1971, attended Virginia Tech for two years and completed Bachelor of Science at Fairleigh Dickinson University and MSW from Lehigh University. Cynthia worked in Mental Health in the Lehigh Valley and Sarasota before pursuing her legal profession. She completed school to become a Paralegal and followed that with a J.D. from The Florida State University College of Law in 1995, in Tallahassee, FL. She was admitted to the Florida Bar, the Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals, and the U.S. District Court of the Middle District of Florida.

During her career as an attorney, Hain worked as a federal judicial law clerk for the Hon. Thomas B. McCoun, a U.S. Magistrate Judge in Tampa from 1995 through 1996. She then worked for a year as an associate for Rahdert, Anderson, McGowan & Steele, PA., in St. Petersburg, FL. She was a federal judicial law clerk for U.S. District Court Judge, the Hon. Henry Lee Adams in Jacksonville, FL, from 1998 through 2003. She was Senior Counsel for law firm Holland & Knight from 2003 until 2012 in Jacksonville until she became a Senior Attorney at AHCA in Tallahassee, FL, where she was currently employed at the time of death.

Cynthia was a gifted competitive swimmer winning titles from an early age. Among her swimming awards were YMCA State titles. She competed in Masters swimming in Australia.

Cynthia was the founder of Westies Unite. Many dear friendships blossomed from her beloved Westies' network. She was known for her sense of adventure, her sage advice, passion for the law--particularly Constitutional law--and never missed a chance to express her position (even to her superiors, whom she often convinced with her solid arguments). She made friends and fans wherever she went, from the groundskeepers to the highest management. She also mentored countless people in their professional and personal matters. She was thoughtful, witty, direct, kindhearted, and unwavering.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Dr. Howard & Emily Hain. She is survived by her brother Scott & his wife Robin Hain; Michael Hain, Margaret Hain Narvaez, Nevin Hain; and Howard Hain II.
