Elwood L. Chapman, 92, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 6, 2017 at Masonic Village, Elizabethtown where he had resided the past four years.  Born Thursday, December 25, 1924 in Rheems, PA, he was the son of the late Lee and Hazel (Anderson) Chapman.  He was married to Florence M. (Chard) Chapman for over 54 years until her death on Friday, January 25, 2002.

Chappie graduated from the Elizabethtown High School in 1942 where he was co-captain of the football team.  A World War II Veteran, he served in the U.S. Army 511th Parachute Infantry Regiment in the South Pacific and was the recipient of the Purple Heart, the Bronze Star and the Philippine Liberation Medal.  He was a retired supervisor at M&M/Mars and the former Klein Chocolate Company.

He was a member of Christ Church UCC, Elizabethtown and a life member and Past Commander of the Elizabethtown VFW Post #5667.  He was also a member of the American Legion Post #329, Moose Lodge #596 and the Abraham C. Treichler Lodge #682 F.&A.M., all in Elizabethtown.  He enjoyed reading, watching football and studying history, especially the Civil War.

He is survived by a son, Terry L. Chapman, of Mount Joy; 5 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren and a brother, John Chapman and wife, Betty, of Elizabethtown.  He was preceded in death by a daughter, Ginger S. Groff and two siblings, Harold Chapman and Merle (Chapman) Dowhower.

Funeral Services will be held at 10 AM on Monday, March 13, 2017 at Christ Church UCC, 247 S. Market Street, Elizabethtown, PA  17022 with Reverend Dr. Galen E. Russell, III officiating.  There will be a viewing held from 9 AM until the time of the service on Monday.  Burial will follow at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville, PA with full military honors.  Arrangements have been entrusted with the Miller-Finkenbinder Funeral Home & Crematory, 130 North Market Street, Elizabethtown, PA 17022, 717-367-1543. 

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Elwood’s honor to a charity of one’s choice.
