J. Richard “Dick” Gibble, 88, of Elizabethtown, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 26, 2018 at Hospice & Community Care, Mount Joy. Born March 10, 1930 in Elizabethtown, he was the son of the late John S. and Ella (Stauffer) Gibble. He was married to Kreszenz S. (Birzle) Gibble for over 59 years.
Dick retired as a Sergeant with the U.S. Army where he proudly served for over 20 years and served two tours in the Vietnam War. Following retirement, he worked for the former K-Wood Planing Mill, Elizabethtown, Johnson Bus Service, Elizabethtown School District and the Manheim Auto Auction. He also enjoyed assisting family members on farms and attending farmers markets.
He was an avid Hershey Bears fan, loved watching NASCAR and enjoyed working in his yard and on his word search puzzles.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by four children: Daniel J. Gibble (Darlene), Richard J. Gibble (Dawn), Diane E. Crum (James) and Rebecca S. Hewitson (Jeffrey). Also surviving are 6 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; a sister, Nancy Shenk (Galen) and a brother, James Gibble (Linda). He will also be dearly missed by his cat, Amber. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Karen A. Weaber.
Closed casket visitation will be held at the Miller-Finkenbinder Funeral Home & Crematory, 130 North Market Street, Elizabethtown, PA 17022, 717-367-1543 on Thursday, November 1, 2018 from 4:00-5:00 PM. Private interment will be in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville, with full military honors.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Dick’s memory to the Humane League of Lancaster County.
