Joseph M. “Joe” Eckman, 60, of Elizabethtown, passed away on Thursday, June 20, 2019 at his home in Mount Joy Township. Born Thursday, September 18, 1958 in Lancaster, he was the oldest son of the late Frank M. and Dolores A. (Haefner) Eckman. He was married to Kimberly A. (Weitzel) Eckman on May 10, 1997.
A Veteran, Joe proudly served with the U.S. Navy (1977 – 1981). He retired from Alcoa, Lancaster, where he worked for over 20 years. Joe was a member of various sportsmen’s clubs including the the Dela-Ches Fishing Association as well as Elstonville Sportsmen Association and was a member of the American Legion Post #329 Elizabethtown where he served as the Vice Commander and was a lifetime member of VFW Post #5752, Mount Joy.
In addition to his wife of over 22 years, he is survived by his faithful four-legged friend Stella, as well as his four siblings: Celeste Eckman, of Mount Joy; Valerie Carroll, married to Kevin, of Morgantown; Stephanie Childs, married to Tom, of Lancaster and Martin Eckman, married to Kristyn Zaenglein, of Lancaster; two nephews, Michael and Christopher Wagner; four nieces: Jessica Creter, Ryenne Carroll, Sophie and Zoe Eckman and a great niece Cambria. Joe was preceded in death by his oldest sister Michelle and best friends Murdoc and Buster.
A Graveside Service will be held at 11 AM on Friday, June 28, 2019 in Laurel Hill Memorial Gardens, 845 Laurel Hill Road, Columbia, PA 17512 with military honors.
A Celebration of Joe’s Life will be held at Dela-Ches Fishing Association Lake Building on Friday June 28, 2019 from 5PM – 9PM located at 5450 Elizabethtown Road, Palmyra, PA 17078.
Casual attire will be encouraged and welcome at both events.
