Kemert D. “Kem” Hess, 76, died on Thursday, April 4, 2019 at Lancaster General Hospital, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Saxton, he was the son of the late Lewis and Madeline (Coy) Hess. He shared the last 26 years of his life with his wife, Elaine (Blough) Hess.
Kem was a proud veteran of the US Navy. He worked as a psychology technician at Philhaven. He will be lovingly remembered as a kind, intelligent, caring man, who was full of wisdom. He was someone who could always make you smile. Kem was very crafty, and could make anything out of anything. He especially liked woodworking, and making diddley bows with his son. He was the best husband, father, and grandfather anyone could hope for.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by four children: Kristine L. Kennedy & companion Rob Wilt, Kelly D. Hess, Kemert D. Hess, II & companion Jamie Stoner, and Amy R. Ebersole & husband Ken, Jr.; three step children: Lisa K. Hitz, Laurie A. Prah & husband Paul, and Lucy Jo Hernley & husband Dwayne; seventeen grandchildren; nine great grandchildren (and two on the way); and three siblings: Charles S. Hess, Maimu Lucero, and Pia Hess & companion Craig Worstall.
A Memorial Service will be held at 4:30pm on Thursday, April 11, 2019 at Miller-Finkenbinder Funeral Home & Crematory, 130 N. Market St., Elizabethtown, PA 17022. Friends and relatives will be received from 3-4:30pm prior to the service. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.
