L. James Heigel, 81, of Elizabethtown, passed away unexpectedly of natural causes on Wednesday, September 6, 2017 at his home in West Donegal Township. Born March 4, 1936 in Elizabethtown, he was the son of the late Robert and Ruth (Sowers) Heigel. He was married to Jean E. (Good) Heigel on March 20, 1955.
Jim worked at Klein Chocolate Company, Elizabethtown and then retired as a Supervisor from M&M Mars, Elizabethtown in 1988. Following retirement, Jim had various jobs and enjoyed spending time on woodworking projects. He will be remembered for his sense of humor and was well loved by family and friends.
Mr. Heigel was a longtime member of the Elizabethtown Church of the Brethren where he served as an usher and was a member of the Deacon Board.
In addition to his wife of over 62 years, he will be lovingly missed by his children: Gregory J. Heigel (Emily) of Lancaster, Pamela K. Haddad (Joseph) of Elizabethtown and Amy L. DeFazio (Michael), of Uniontown. Also surviving are 7 grandchildren; two sisters, Peggy Fosnot (John), of Elizabethtown and Thelma Haines, of Portland Maine as well as a brother, Robert L. Heigel, of Maytown. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Sue Heigel and Helen Good.
There will be a viewing held at the Miller-Finkenbinder Funeral Home & Crematory, 130 North Market Street, Elizabethtown, PA 17022 on Monday, September 11, 2017 from 7:00-9:00 PM. A Memorial Service will be held at 10:30 AM on Saturday, September 16, 2017 at the Elizabethown Church of the Brethren, 777 S. Mount Joy Street, Elizabethtown, PA 17022. Burial will follow in the Memorial Garden at the church. Visitation will be held at the church from 9:30 AM until the time of the service on Saturday.
