Nancy Jean (Bunnow) Bowe, 74, of Lititz, passed away Saturday, September 29, 2018, surrounded by her family at Hospice Community Care. Born in Appleton, WI, on May 27, 1944, she was the daughter of the late Melvin and Augusta (Burkardt) Bunnow. Nancy will be lovingly missed by her husband of 54 years, John A. Bowe.
She was a woman of strong Christian faith and she loved teaching in both the Christian and academic arenas. Nancy pioneered the concept of learning centers, wrote curriculum for the Presbyterian Church USA, and a director of Christian Education for two congregations. She had a passion for books, was an avid reader and published many articles for Presbyterian Church magazines. Nancy was also a gifted poet with many published works. She loved flowers and gardening, decorating, scrap booking, music, traveling, and vacations to places with mountains and water with family. She was also a lifelong Green Bay Packers fan. She actively participated in social and political causes such as civil rights marches but nothing could come close to the intense love for her family. Most importantly she loved being a mother, grandmother and wife. She valued their presence, and her love for them had no end. This was apparent in countless ways, one being the sound of a camera always snapping so she was sure to capture and preserve every moment. Nancy loved making a warm and welcoming home with the smells of good food and the sound of laughter. She fought bravely against colon cancer. She always kept her head up, her faith strong, her family close, but above all never let it define her.
Along with her husband, she is survived her by two sons: Eric J. Bowe and wife Anita of TX, and Kevin A. Bowe and wife Lisa of Lititz and her six grandchildren: Jessica and Joshua Bowe, Tayah Norris, and Katie, Megan, and Alyson Bowe, in addition to her two brothers: David and Steve Bunnow of Appleton, WI. She was preceded in death by an infant son, and older sister Barbara Reiner.
A Memorial Service will be held at 2PM on Thursday, October 4, 2018, at Bethany Presbyterian Church, 25 N. West End Ave., Lancaster, PA 17603, with Reverend Kent A. Holmes officiating. Visitation with the family will follow the service. Burial will be private at Duncannon Presbyterian Cemetery. Arrangements have been entrusted to Miller-Finkenbinder Funeral Home Crematory, 130 N. Market St., Elizabethtown, PA 17022. 717-367-1543.
