Robert Simon Hinkle, 96, formerly of West Hazleton, passed away peacefully on December 9, 2017 at the Masonic Village of Elizabethtown. He was born February 26, 1921 in Trenton, NJ to the late Simon and Elizabeth (Kisthardt) Hinkle. He is survived by his loving wife of 74 years, Marian M. (Kromis) Hinkle.
Bob was a lifelong resident of West Hazleton where he graduated from high school in 1941. Shortly thereafter, he served in the U.S. Army Air Corps in the China, Burma, India theater during WWII. Bob was a local truck driver for Alto Trucking most of his working career. He was a member of the Faith United Church of Christ, Hazleton.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by daughter, Deborah wife of Sylvester Beozzo, Pittsburgh; son Robert C. Hinkle husband of Cheryl, Lancaster; 3 granddaughters, Lynn wife of Jason Crumbling, Columbia, Abbie wife of Paul Cornblatt, Maryland and Michelle, wife of Sean Anderson, Colorado and 4 great granddaughters. He is survived by 2 sisters, Betty Kunkel and Ruth Grube and was predeceased by 6 siblings: Mabel Borneisen, Helen Gerber, Elizabeth Young Vogel, Katherine Ritz, Donald Hinkle, and Dorothy Sachs.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, December 15, 2017 at 10:30 AM at Sell Chapel, Masonic Village, Elizabethtown, preceded by a viewing beginning at 9:30 AM until time of service. Interment will be at 3 PM at Mountain View Cemetery, West Hazleton.
