Welcome to the memorial page for

Ruth Gale (Doyle) Emberger

October 10, 1927 ~ July 5, 2017 (age 89) 89 Years Old

Ruth G. Emberger of Masonic Village in Elizabethtown returned home to the Lord on Wednesday evening, July 5, 2017.  Ruth was born on a farm in southwest Philadelphia, the fifth of five children to Frank B. Doyle, Sr. and Sarah Boyd.  Ruth was the first of her family to graduate from high school (John Bartram High School).  She met the love of her life, Robert (Bob), when she went to pick up his US Navy uniform from the dry cleaners.  Bob was just home following his service as a pilot with the US Navy (VPB-116) in the Pacific theater during WW-II.  They married in 1949 and were never apart.

Ruth loved the Lord, Ruth loved Bob, and Ruth loved her family.  Ruth was a long-time member of St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Broomall, PA, before joining St. Mary’s of Stone Harbor after Ruth and Bob retired to Avalon Manor.  Eleven years ago, Ruth & Bob joined All Saints Episcopal Church in Hershey, where they remain active and loyal parishioners. Ruth supported Bob in all of his endeavors.  She travelled with Bob to Naval Aviator conventions all over the US.  When Bob and a group of coaches from Lansdowne-Aldan decided to start a computerized report card and student scheduling business called Educators Processing Service, Ruth was its first and only office manager. She handled all of the logistics from her kitchen table.  Ruth didn’t drive, so the other coaches’ wives would help get her to the schools they serviced.  Before the business was sold they handled well over 25 school districts within a 100-mile radius of Broomall. Ruth loved her children.  She typed their term papers, celebrated their joys and attended to a wide variety of broken bones and broken hearts. For the past eleven years Ruth and Bob have lived at Masonic Village.  Ruth took full advantage of the activities on campus and enjoyed travelling, winning at bingo, and playing bridge and pinochle with her lifelong card partner, Bob.

Ruth is survived by her husband of 68 years, Robert M. Emberger, and by her four children – Bob Jr. and his wife Cathy of Bethlehem; Wayne and his wife Peg of Upper Township, NJ; Ruth and her husband Eric Adolfsen of Clermont, NJ; and Bill and his wife Lisa of Millville, NJ. Ruth had 10 grandchildren.  She was proud of all of them and attended many of their weddings and graduations. Her 8 great grandchildren provided her with many smiles as she received pictures via e-mail or learned of their exploits from her weekly calls with her children. Ruth is also survived by her nieces Joan and Carol and her nephew Wes. Ruth was predeceased by her parents, and her brothers Bill, Frank, and Ray and her sister Evelyn.

A celebration of Ruth’s life will be held at 11 AM on Wednesday, July 12, 2017 at All Saints Episcopal Church, 310 Elm Avenue, Hershey, PA 17033.  A time of visitation will follow the service.  A private committal service will be held at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville, PA at the convenience of the family.  Arrangements have been entrusted with the Miller-Finkenbinder Funeral Home & Crematory, 130 North Market Street, Elizabethtown, PA  17022, 717-367-1543.

The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to All Saints Episcopal Church, 310 Elm Avenue, Hershey, PA 17033.
