Verne Lott

Verne Lott, age 90, passed away at 3:30 a.m. on December 3, 2017 at the Masonic Village Home in Elizabethtown, PA where he has been a resident since 2010.  He was born on October 10 in 1927 in Wyoming County.  As a young man, he lived for a time at the Masonic Home.  He enlisted in the Coast Guard as a Merchant Marine and served for 17 years, sailing to ports around the world.  After residing in the Wyalusing/Towanda area, he returned to Forkston in the 1980s to help with the care of his ailing mother.  He remained in the area until he moved to Elizabethtown.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Gladys (Jayne) and John Wilson Lott, his brother, Byron, and his sisters, Ellen, Dottie (and Harold Goodwin) and Betty (Twidt).  He is survived by brother in law, Roger Twidt, his niece, Alissa Hood and her family, and his nephew, Brian Twidt and his family, and cousins Harvey, Dianne and David Sick along with many other cousins.

We want to extend our gratefulness to the staff on Washington 4 at the Masonic Village for their care of him for the last seven years – thank you!  On Friday, December 22st at 10:00 a.m. there will be a Memorial Time in the Meditation Chapel at the Masonic Village in the Roosevelt area. Plans for interment will be scheduled for the summer months with a celebration of Verne’s life at that time in Forkston. 

Verne was a quiet man who loved the outdoors. Our memories include his very small trailer, his solitude and thriftiness, long hikes in the mountains and blueberry picking along with swimming in the Forkston Creek.  He was a hard worker and frequently we would find him chopping wood, cutting the grass or driving Aunt Dottie! He would make his own bread, boil his coffee on the stove and grew many things in his garden.  We enjoyed hearing him share of his adventures as a Merchant Marine and liked to join him as he relaxed in the rocking chair in the middle of the living room where he would often watch baseball.
