Eleanor R. (Espenshade) Myers

Eleanor Romaine Espenshade Myers, 101, of Elizabethtown received her wish to spend eternity with her heavenly family on Monday April 8 at Masonic Village surrounded by her loved ones. She was born on January 29, 1923 in Middletown. She was the firstborn daughter of the late Wesley and Anna (Miller) Espenshade.

Eleanor lived a long and fulfilling life. She started her working life at H.B. Reese Co. prior to being married. Her and her husband Richard N. Myers maintained the family farm in Conoy Twp. She enjoyed gardening and housekeeping, something she continued to do well into her 80’s. After managing a produce stand at Broad Street Market in Harrisburg during the 1960’s, she started working at AMP Inc. for the next 18 years, retiring back to life on the farm in 1986. Her and Richard enjoyed traveling to places like Hawaii, Europe, Jamaica, Catalina and the US. She was a very accomplished quilter, rug maker and crocheter, winning many local and state fair ribbons and awards.

Eleanor was a 50 year member of The First Church of God in Elizabethtown. She was an original member of the quilters group at church, making quilts for other church members.

In addition to her parents, husband Richard and son Barry L. (Judy Geibe), Eleanor was preceded in death by ten siblings; Dorothy Rutt, Wesley Espenshade, Helene Zeager, Pauline Kraybill, Geraldine Shelly, Fern Messick, Arlene Reider, Anna Forrey, Jay Espenshade and Edwin Espenshade.

She is survived by a son, Jeffrey L. Myers (Judy Mull) of Garrettsville OH, grandchildren Trevor Myers, Megan Callan, Shannon Steg, and Angela Hoffman; and great-grandchildren Carly Hoffman, Sienna Steg, Cooper Hoffman, and Tommy Steg; a brother Ira Espenshade and a sister Miriam Judy.

A celebration of her life will be held on Friday, April 12, 2024 at Sell Chapel on the Masonic Village Campus. A viewing will be held one hour prior to the memorial service in the chapel. Private family interment will be at Goods Mennonite Cemetery, Elizabethtown, following the service.
