Helen I. (Shumaker) Schmick, 94, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 24, 2021 at Masonic Village, Elizabethtown. Born Saturday, July 16, 1927, in Blain, PA, she was the daughter of the late Milton R. and Carrie (Stambaugh) Shumaker. She was married to Donald Eugene Schmick for over 67 years until his death on January 10, 2016.
Helen received her master’s degree from Lebanon Valley College and worked as an Elementary School Teacher for Central Dauphin School District, teaching 5th grade at the Linglestown and E.H. Phillips Elementary Schools. She was also an avid reader and a fan of Penn State.
Helen and Don were long time members of the Calvary United Methodist Church in Colonial Park and enjoyed church work. They also enjoyed many years of travel in their motorhome, including two trips to Alaska.
She is survived by a son, Thomas M. Schmick, married to Brenda, of Montoursville, PA. Also surviving are two grandchildren: Aaron T. Schmick, married to Kara, of Falmouth, Maine and Ethan J. Schmick, married to Lauren, of Milwaukee, Wisconsin as well as Helen’s numerous nephews, nieces, extended family and caring friends.
Private interment will take place at the convenience of the family in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville, PA. Arrangements have been entrusted with the Miller-Finkenbinder Funeral Home, 130 North Market Street, Elizabethtown, PA 17022, 717-367-1543.
