Marie E. Walter, 79, of Elizabethtown, passed away on Tuesday, September 28, 2021 at Masonic Village. Born Thursday, August 6, 1942 in York, she was the daughter of the late George and Lorena (Potts) Dietz. She was married 58 years to Frederick W. Walter who passed away June 9th of this year.
Marie was a 1960 graduate of York Suburban High School. After graduating high school, she worked at the York Credit Bureau until she and Fred married in 1962. Marie returned to work when Scott entered 1st grade in 1974. She was an office manager and purchasing agent for Y.I.S., Inc. until her retirement. Even while working full-time, Marie supported her children’s extracurricular activities in many ways. These included serving as a Brownie and Girl Scout Leader in the Penn Laurel Girl Scout Council, and acting as Secretary of the Dallastown Community Band’s Parents’ Association. She and Fred were members of Yorkshire United Methodist Church for more than 50 years. At the church, Marie was active as a leader and teacher for several consecutive years of VBS and Sunday school. She was also active in several of the women’s circles at Yorkshire and the services they provided to the church; such as planning the church picnics and other special events, procuring new choir gowns for the youth choirs, and providing alter care. Marie had an artistic ability which she expressed through painting, ceramics, macramé, needlepoint, and other hand-crafts. She even took piano lessons along with her kids!
Surviving are two children: Elizabeth Ann Fry and husband Charles of New Bloomfield; a son Scott Frederick Walter and wife Laura of Elizabethtown; five grandchildren, one great grandson and a sister Phyllis Porter of Duncannon.
A Funeral service will be held on Friday, October 8, 2021 at John S. Sell Memorial Chapel, Masonic Village, Elizabethtown, PA 17022 at 11:00AM. Viewing will be from 10:00 AM until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Marie’s memory may be made to Yorkshire United Methodist Church, 125 Edgewood Road, York, PA 17402.
After the service at Sell Chapel, friends are welcome to join the family for a graveside service for both Fred and Marie at Mount Rose Cemetery, 1502 Mount Rose Avenue, York, PA 17403 at 1:00 PM.
