Phyllis T. Gingrich, 100, of Annville, formerly of Palmyra, passed away peacefully on March 28, 2023 at Kindred Place in Annville. Born December 15, 1922 in Harrisburg, she was the daughter of the late Clarence M. and Sara C. (Nunemaker) Thumma. She was married 61 years to Robert C. Gingrich who passed away in October 2004.
Phyllis was a 1940 graduate of John Harris High. She was a graduate of Central Penn Business School and also attended Lebanon Valley College. She was a member of Palmyra First United Methodist Church for over 70 years where she sang in the choir and taught Junior Department Sunday School. She was a member of the United Methodist Women and served three terms as president. She was also a member of the Palmyra Women’s Club and served as Music Chairman. A gifted musician, Phyllis played the cello in the Hershey Symphony for 30 years and also gave private lessons for over 20 years.
Phyllis is survived by six children: William C. Gingrich and wife Emalene; John N. Gingrich; Thomas H. Gingrich and wife Andrea; Charles R. Gingrich and wife Sharon; Jean G. Weidler and Anne L. Hartman and husband Jerry; 16 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren, four great great grandchildren; and a sister Nancy T. Bowles. She was predeceased by a son-in-law Rev. Dennis Weidler; two brothers: William M. and James M. Thumma, and a sister Jane T. Benzinger.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 1, 2023 at Palmyra First United Methodist Church, 520 East Birch Street, Palmyra, PA at 11:00 AM. Visitation with family will be from 10:00 AM until the time of service. Interment will take place at a later date.
