Sara Floy Risser, 84, of Lancaster, formerly of Elizabethtown, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, September 25, 2020, at Calvary Homes. Born Tuesday, December 31, 1935, near Hershey, she was the daughter of the late Floyd G. and Florence (Hershey) Risser.
Sara attended Hershey High School and graduated from Lancaster Mennonite School in 1953. In 1957 she graduated from Lancaster General Hospital School of Nursing, earned her Bachelor of Science degree from Bob Jones University in 1963, and went on to earn her Master’s degree in 1970 from The Catholic University of America. Sara served as a community health nurse administrator for over 50 years in Quito, Ecuador, where she was known as “Sarita”. Her life’s work reached far and wide touching many lives through the mission agencies of HCJB (Reach Beyond), World Servants, and since 1987, Global Outreach International.
Sara is survived by her brother, Floyd Risser, and wife Gwen, of Australia. She was much loved by her many nieces and nephews: Karen Risser and Kathy Risser; Janice Kyger, Joseph Martin, Julie Greer, and Jonathan Martin; Paul Risser; Jason Risser, Joshua Risser, and Jennifer Castro; Jacob and Jonathan Risser; and her sisters-in-law, Pat Risser and Deborah Risser.
A celebration of Sara’s life will be held on Sunday, October 11, 2020, at Community Bible Church, 331 Anderson Ferry Road, Marietta, PA 17547 at 2:00 PM. (Please wear a mask). The service will be live-streamed at https://www.facebook.com/cbcmariettapa for those unable to attend. Private interment will take place in Risser's Mennonite Cemetery.
