Chris Thompson, 81, of Elizabethtown, went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, at the Lebanon VA Medical Center on Monday, February 1, 2016.  He was born November 13, 1934 in Manheim to the late Harry W. and Lizzie (Emenheiser) Thompson.  He was married to Deborah J. (Knoll) Thompson.

 

A Veteran of the Korean Conflict, Chris proudly served with the United States Marine Corps.  Along with serving in the Marine Corps, Chris worked for Raymark in Manheim for 35 years.  He played semi-pro football as a fullback for the Cumberland Colts and Harrisburg Caps.  He was also a PIAA official for 15 years officiating in basketball, baseball and football.  

Chris operated/managed a restaurant at Saturday's Market and in his spare time, he enjoyed sharing the word of the Lord, collecting scrap metal, going on Tastykake runs and attending sporting events.  In his younger years, he enjoyed golfing, hunting and coaching junior high football and baseball.  He will be remembered as a hard working man who always kept very busy.

 

In addition to his wife, Debbie, of Elizabethtown, he is survived by seven children: Bonnie Wolfersberger and husband Jeff, of Ocean City, MD; Julie Carter, of Elizabethtown; Tracy Snow and husband Tom, of Ephrata; Christopher Grube and wife Lisa, of Manheim; Derek Grube and wife Jessica, of Mount Joy; Kirsten Thompson and Jordan Thompson, both of Elizabethtown; 12 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.  Also surviving is a sister, Margaret “Peg” Frey, of Lancaster as well as three brothers: Paul Thompson, of Florida; John Thompson and wife Joyce, of Elizabethtown and Glenn Thompson and wife Christine, of Allentown.  He was predeceased by an infant son, J.C. Thompson and six siblings: Harry, James, Mary, Robert, Richard and Joseph Thompson.

 

A Memorial Service will be held at 11 AM on Friday, February 5, 2016 at the Miller-Finkenbinder Funeral Home & Crematory, 130 North Market Street, Elizabethtown, PA  17022.  Visitation will be held from 10 AM until the time of the service on Friday.  Burial will follow the service in Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Mount Joy.
