Frank A. Graham, Jr.

 

      Frank Archibald Graham Jr. 95, of Elizabethtown, PA, passed away on Monday, August 22, 2016 at Pleasant View Retirement Community, Manheim, PA.  Born Friday, September 10, 1920, in Hagerstown, MD, he was the son of the late Frank A. Graham Sr. and Edna Mae (Munshaur) Graham.

      Frank graduated from West York High School, York, PA in 1938 and graduated from Franklin and Marshall College, Lancaster, PA in 1942, with a B.S. in Economics and a major in accounting.  For 40 years he held accounting and managerial positions in both the private and public sectors, retiring in December 1985 from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Board of Probation and Parole, Harrisburg, PA as Chief Budget Analyst after 13 ½ years of service.

      Frank served in the U.S. Air Corps from July 1942 to October 1945.  He served with the Headquarters Squadron 498th Bombardment Group, 20th Air Force, in the Marianas Islands Pacific, as Group Unit Personnel Sergeant Major.  He was awarded the Bronze Star. 

      Frank was a member of Christ Church United Church of Christ Elizabethtown, PA where he served on the church visitation committee.  He was also a member of the Pennsylvania Association of Retired State Employees.  He enjoyed the theatre, musical concerts and visiting friends and relatives.

       Frank was married, the first time, in 1942 to Jeraldine Farrar Julius of York, PA.  She passed away in 1996 after 54 years of marriage.  On July 8, 2000 he was married to Merrill Carrington Stettler of Elizabethtown, PA.  She passed away on March 26, 2012 after 12 years of marriage.

      Frank is survived by four daughters; Yvonne F. Grady and husband John, Mays Landing, NJ; Shelley G. Kugel and husband William, Madison, NH; Deborah J. Osborne, Sherrills Ford, NC and Laurie L. Engle and husband Melvin, Elizabethtown, PA.  Step-daughters Barbara L. Dohan and husband William, Willow Street, PA and Trudy Dombach, Airville, PA. Grandson John M. Grady, Ridley Park, PA.  Granddaughters Kirsten M. Otzenberger, Puyallup, WA; Jessica L. Espenshade, Elizabethtown, PA; Ivy Jo Wesner, Sherrills Ford, NC and Catherine N. Adams, Dulles, VA.  Great grandsons Christopher M. Engle, Mt Joy, PA; Tyson G. Wesner, Sherrills Ford, NC; David E. Adams, Dulles, VA and Matthew R. Adams, Dulles, VA.  Great granddaughters Abbi L. Wesner, Sherrills Ford, NC; Lauren E. Grady, Ridley Park, PA and Gabrielle M. Grady, Ridley Park, PA.

      A memorial service will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, October 15, 2016 at Christ Church United Church of Christ, 247 South Market Street, Elizabethtown, PA  17022 with the Rev. Dr. Galen E. Russell, III and the Rev. Dr. Frederick A. Young officiating.  Burial will follow in St. Paul’s Church Cemetery, 4515 Wolf’s Church Road, York, PA  17408.  Visitation will be held from 10 AM until the time of the service on Saturday.  Arrangements have been entrusted to the Miller-Finkenbinder Funeral Home & Crematory, 130 North Market Street, Elizabethtown, PA  17022, 717-367-1543.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Frank’s honor to Christ Church United Church of Christ at the address listed above.
